About Us

Marie Ansari, Secretary
Marie M. Ansari accepted the volunteer position as Rescue Liaison for LIDA in April 2006. As a non-lawyer member of LIDA, Marie coordinates efforts for care and adoption of the animals that become known to LIDA. A lifetime supporter of animal rights, she became formally involved in animal rescue and placement in 1999 when she mobilized a large group of volunteers to socialize and rehome cats and dogs housed at a local animal pound. Those volunteers represented a wide range of talents and resources coming together for the common purpose of helping animals move out of cages and into lifetime adoptive homes. That successful endeavor led to the formation of several private, tax-exempt groups that continue to function to this day.

Marie was a member of the board of Watchung Stables Auxiliary when the Horse Retirement initiative was put into effect. The horses at Watchung Stables in New Jersey are now placed in retirement homes when they can no longer be used for lessons. Ms. Ansari has been a member of the Animal Initiatives committee of FOSH (local community organization) for six years. The AI committee was formed by a group of concerned citizens when their town's animal control facility closed in the wake of 600 counts of animal cruelty. The committee fosters awareness of many animal issues, including promoting TNR for feral cats, speaking out against breed-specific legislation, and sponsoring a yearly Celebration of Animals.

The animal-people connection has long been the most important aspect of animal rescue for Marie. Ms. Ansari lives with her husband, who is very supportive of her efforts, along with their 4 rescued cats and a dog.
